PEARL VALLEY GOLF ESTATES TO HOST SA AMATEUR STROKEPLAY

One hundred and six golfers, including four Frenchmen and two English men, will be competing for the title of South African Stroke Play Champion 2008, to be decided over seventy two holes of the idyllic Pearl Valley Golf Estates’ 18 hole layout, from the 5th – 8th February, 2008.

This year the South African Golf Association introduced a separate Stroke Play championship. The Glacier SA Amateur Championship, a Match Play event, will take place at the Royal Durban course over the period of 2nd - 7th March 2008.

Pre Championship favourites includes the in form Dean O’Riley. The Benoni Lake Golf Club player, fresh from his victory at the Kwazulu Natal Open, would like to move closer to Ruan Botha, of Randpark Golf Club, who heads the SA Player Rankings.

Exciting young Gauteng North junior Dylan Frittelli of Irene is also a player to watch. Close on their heels could be Adrian Ford of Durbanville, whose game has matured in leaps and bounds over the last year, looks ready to move into consideration for national selection. Not to be forgotten will be the slightly older Johan du Buisson from Kuilsrivier. Johan, who was the best performing amateur in the South African Airways Open at Pearl Valley in December, has shown that he has what it takes with his victory at Prince’s Grant two weeks ago. If the weather turns foul, watch this dedicated golfer.

Spectators are welcome to come and watch, there is no entry charge. The golf should be good, the setting simply the best.
